Tiny Art Is So Big Right Now

Small art is having quite the moment, and for many good reasons! I’m personally excited about the tiny art movement. The house I live in is not technically a tiny home, but it is a vintage workman’s cottage from the 1880s. It lacks expansive wall space, so hanging large works of art isn’t an option in most rooms. Storage and designated home studio space are also limited. Tiny art has come to the rescue as we’ve decorated our home and it’s also allowed me to produce art comfortably within the constraints of my little art studio nook!

Here are all the reasons I love little art, whether it’s drawings, paintings, or sculptural pieces:

  • Tiny art is often more affordable than larger original art pieces. Sometimes you can even get a custom piece of small art for less than the price of a print! And it’s more economical to ship.

  • It fits in small spaces and it’s flexible. Think of tiny art as modular. You can put multiple small pieces on a shelf or arrange them together to create a gallery wall in a variety of ways.

  • Small art makes a great gift because it’s easy for the recipient to find a place to hang it, whether they have lots of other art or this is their very first piece.

  • It’s an approachable way to start building an art collection because it’s usually less of an initial investment, and it’s easy to add to.

  • Little art mixes well with larger art. Pulling together various scales adds interest to a wall. You can unify the pieces through common themes, colors, or styles.

  • You can tuck small artwork into odd shaped nooks and slivers of wall space instead of leaving these tough to fill areas empty.

  • Colorful tiny art is an excellent way to add a pop of color to your interior spaces and try out the dopamine decor trend. It’s easy to live with and more likely to stand the test of time than going all in on a bold color scheme.

I’m not the only one showing tiny art some major love these days. The New York Times, Elle Decor, Artnet, and Livingetc recently published articles about the tiny art takeover. So what are you waiting for? Whether you’re picking up vintage art from your favorite thrift store, purchasing original work or prints from an independent artist, or creating your own pieces, now is the time to make a big impact with small scale art!
